Description

This is a terrace of twenty cottages, built around 1913 by J D Coleridge for the Duchy of Cornwall Estate. The terrace is divided into five blocks, with alternating red and grey brickwork, varying in width from six to ten windows. The cottages all have a red brick band at first-floor level and a brick plinth. The architectural style is adapted from Dutch precedents. The roofs are dark red tile; the grey brick blocks have hipped roofs with an eaves cornice, while the red brick blocks have cross-gabled roofs with either shaped or crow-stepped gable ends, finished with Roman cement copings. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set within moulded wooden architraves, and are topped with arches constructed from soldier bricks. The half-glazed doors are in plain wood surrounds and feature small, oblong fanlights above. Decorative rainwater heads bear the Prince of Wales' feathers and motto.
