Description

Nos 57 and 59 on South Lambeth Road are an early 19th-century building of good quality. The central block is three storeys high with a basement and features three windows, while the side wings are two storeys and also include a basement with two windows. The building has parapet fronts, although some rebuilding has occurred on the right side. It is constructed of stock brick with stone bands at the ground floor, first floor cills, and at the impost level of the arcaded ground floor, although the two right bays have lost their arcading. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are topped with gauged brick arches, and the round-headed windows on the ground floor add to the character. The arcade arches feature key blocks with masks. Access to the entrance is via a double flight of six steps with wrought iron rails leading to a six-panel door that has an ornamental cornice head and a patterned radial fanlight. The left ground floor openings have been blocked, while there is a six-panel door with a plain fanlight on the right.
