Description
The mausoleum of Baron John Frederick Andrew Huth, located in Kensal Green Cemetery, is a very large structure made of Portland stone, designed by Edward Manuel Lander the Elder. It stands on a tall base with torus moulding. Each side features a central panel that includes either an inscription or an armorial achievement, which is flanked by relief urns. The frieze displays Biblical inscriptions in Latin on each side, quoting Job 1:21: 'Dominus dedit Dominus abstulit / sit nomen Domini benedictum', which translates to 'the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away / blessed be the name of the Lord'. The roof is designed as a stepped pyramid with pierced ventilation openings. The mausoleum is reported to have cost £1,500 and has the capacity to hold 48 coffins inside.
