Description

The Birkbeck Mausoleum, also known as the Dr George Birkbeck Mausoleum, is located in Kensal Green Cemetery on Harrow Road, London. It was built to commemorate Dr George Birkbeck, who died in 1841. The mausoleum is constructed from Portland stone and features a pediment with corner pilasters that extend from the plinth to the entablature, along with an inscribed frieze. The south end of the structure has a square-headed moulded architrave that leads to a blocked doorway. This mausoleum honors the family of Dr George Birkbeck, a philosopher and the founder of the Working Men's Mechanics Institutions and University College, London in 1827.
