Description
The Tomb of Frederick Tillson, who died in 1870, is located in Kensal Green Cemetery. This canopied tomb is made of Portland stone and features sandstone and marble colonnettes, along with a wrought iron screen. It has a panelled chest set on a raised, moulded base, which displays applied Lombardic lead letters on the southern end. The angle colonnettes are made of red sandstone and there is a foliate frieze. The upper canopy is supported by eight colonnettes of green Serpentine marble, with a scrolled wrought iron screen between them. There are trefoil-headed arched openings at the north and south ends, adorned with foliate borders, and the structure has a gabled roof. This tomb is an exceptionally elaborate Gothic Revival outdoor monument, inspired by medieval tomb shrines.
