Description
The Second Church of Christ Scientist is a church auditorium, school hall, and offices built between 1921 and 1924 by architects Burnet and Tait. It features narrow red bricks with raked joints and a pantiled roof, along with some Portland stone elements. The building is designed in a simplified Italian style and has an 'L' shaped layout. The main auditorium is positioned to the right and has a gabled roof with triple round-headed windows. To the left, there is a two-storey wing that is set back, featuring a single-storey covered walkway in front and an advanced bay with the main entrance. There is an additional entrance in the left-hand return of the auditorium block. The building includes round-headed windows with some stone shafts and capitals. An adjoining garden wall made of red brick and Portland stone has an arched entrance and wrought iron gates. Inside the auditorium, there is some inlaid panelling.
