Description
The Tomb of HRH the Duke of Cambridge is a mausoleum located in Kensal Green Cemetery, built to commemorate the Duke who died in 1904. It is constructed from pink and grey granite and features an arched doorway on the south face, flanked by plinths and set below a cavetto cornice. The side walls are battered with roll mouldings at the corners, and the roof is stepped with a curved finial. Marble posts with chains mark the border of the plot. The Duke of Cambridge, a grandson of George III, served as Commander in Chief of the British Army for 39 years during a time of great imperial power and is noted for his opposition to reform. He is buried here alongside his morganatic wife, Sarah Fairbrother, who was a pantomime actress and later known as Mrs Fitzgeorge.
