Description
The monument to George Kmety, located in Kensal Green Cemetery, is a simple obelisk made of Peterhead marble. It stands on a battered pedestal, which is placed on a plinth. The monument is signed by A MacDonald of Aberdeen. The inscription appears on all three sides in English, Latin, and Turkish, stating: "Lieutenant General in the Armies of the Emperor of the Ottomans. Defender of Kars, Chief of the Forces in Syria. In whom Hungary mourns a brave commander in her National War of 1848-1849." It concludes with a note indicating that the monument covering his remains was "erected by command of THE SULTAN."
