Description

A mews, dating from 1862, located in Holland Park. The buildings are constructed of stock brick and are two storeys high. They are situated on a steep slope, causing the houses to be stepped down in elevation; numbers 1 and 35 are at the bottom, and numbers 34 and 67 are at the top. The uphill section of the elevation is characterised by garage doors, with four folds. Stone lateral steps with iron railings lead up to the downhill section, where a segmental headed window is situated. A smaller, segmental headed door is located below the stairs. The upper floor has an iron-railed balcony across the front, featuring two sash windows and a central door with a fanlight above. A stuccoed cornice and balustrade run along the top. The houses are stepped down, and some have been altered, including remodelled ground floors and the removal of stairs. Some buildings lack balustrades. The design is unusual and possesses a marked picturesque quality.
