Description

Dating from 1841, 16 and 17 Kensington Gate are a symmetrical pair of semi-detached houses designed by C. Bean as part of a larger, unified scheme with numbers 1-15 and 18-29 Kensington Gate. The houses are stucco-faced and three storeys high, with basements. They resemble numbers 2 and 3, 14 and 15, and 28 and 29 in the row. The ground floors feature rustication to the quoins, while Ionic porticos are present. A modillion cornice runs along the top of the building, and square towers rise above the balustraded porches and roofline. Cast iron area railings are a notable feature. The houses remain in an unspoiled condition.
