Description

40 Chelsea Square is a neo-Georgian house built in 1930 by Oliver Hill. It is a symmetrical two-storey building with five bays, constructed of white-painted stucco and has a pantile roof and two tall brick chimney stacks. The entrance bay projects slightly forward, featuring a three-bay central pedimented projection. The front door is panelled, with a window above set within a segmental-pedimented case, and a segmental-headed sash window with glazing bars, topped by a keystone. A small oval window is located within the pediment. Quoins are present at the first floor level. The walls curve outwards at ground level, screening a single-storey service wing and passage, the entrance to which is a modern replacement. The interior remains largely intact. This building exhibits group value.
