Description
Bolton Lodge, located at 143 Old Church Street in Chelsea, is a two-storey building that has served as the Chelsea Arts Club since 1902. The exterior is faced in stucco and features chamfered 'Tudor' arched openings with dripmoulds and iron guards on the first floor. The parapet is adorned with small ball finials. The Club has strong connections to many prominent art figures of the 20th century, including Whistler, Wilson Steer, George Clausen, Brangwyn, Sickert, Augustus John, Sargent, Ambrose McEvoy, Orpen, Lavery, Short, Munnings, Lutyens, Adrian Jones, Derwent Wood, Minton, Jagger, Alfonso Toft, Albert Rutherston, Sir Charles Wheeler, and Professors Brown and Tonks of the Slade, among others. It is listed as Grade II for its historical interest.
