Description
Number 20 is a single house that is now part of a terrace, dating from the early to mid-17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The exterior is roughcast with a roof covered in slates, which has largely been altered. The building stands three storeys high over a basement and features a three-window range with a double-fronted design.
The entrance is located in a central, two-storey porch, which has a flat-arched chamfered entrance and a moulded architrave surrounding the flat-arched doorcase. Above the porch, there is a storey band with a flat-arched, mullioned and transomed window that is set under a hoodmould, and a modillion cornice. The ground-floor windows are flat-arched with flush frames and feature waterleaf and beaded ornament on the outer mouldings; they are 6/6 sashes. Above these, there are canted oriels that have a modillion cornice and flat-arched windows with 6/6 sashes of original design. The twin gables have small casement windows with cornices and decorative bargeboards.
The area railings, dating from the late 19th century, feature panels of scrolling ornament. The interior has not been inspected recently, but a description from 1972 mentions that it has an interesting interior.
