Description
These are two terraced houses, numbers 10 and 10A, located on Hornsey Lane and dating from the mid-18th century, with later 19th-century additions and alterations. They are constructed of plum brick and red brick, with dressings of gauged red brick, and the roof is obscured by a parapet. Number 10 is a two-window-wide house, while number 10A has a three-window-wide frontage onto Hornsey Lane, with a chamfered corner. Number 10 is largely intact, though it has been considerably restored. It features a flat-arched entrance, situated above a rebuilt basement. The doorcase appears to be a replacement, with pilasters, an entablature, and sidelights. All the windows have flat arches. The ground-floor window is within a moulded frame that is nearly flush with the wall. The first-floor windows are Palladian on the right-hand side, with flat arches to the left. The second-floor windows are lunette-shaped on the right, and flat-arched on the left, and the parapet has been rebuilt. Number 10A has a section of one window that dates to the mid-18th century, with the remainder being from the late 19th century. The mid-18th century section contains a 20th-century flat-arched entrance with a cornice and overlight. Narrow, flat-arched staircase windows are present on all three floors; the late 19th-century section has flat-arched tripartite windows with gauged red brick headers, also on three floors. All openings on the chamfered corner are now blocked, and the parapet is higher on the left-hand side.
