Description
This is a terrace of twelve houses, numbers 73 to 95 (odd), located on the south side of Barnsbury Street in Islington. They were built around 1836. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with a rusticated stucco ground floor and a plain band at first-floor level. The roofs are hidden behind a parapet, and there are party-wall brick stacks. The houses are three storeys high with a basement (numbers 85 and 95 also have an attic with dormers), and each house has two windows. The layout follows a side-hall entrance plan with a staircase.
Steps lead to the entrance on the right-hand side of number 95; there is a separate entrance in the right return of Lonsdale Square. The entrance doorway features pilaster jambs supporting a corniced head, a patterned fanlight, and a panelled door. The ground floor has round-arched openings. The upper floors have architraved sash windows with first-floor cornices and cast iron balconies. A stucco cornice and blocking course run along the top of the building. Attached iron railings topped with torch flambe finials contribute to the building's appearance.
