Description

Numbers 35 to 53 (odd) and attached railings are a row of terraced houses dating from the mid-19th century. They are built of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco detailing, and have artificial slate roofs. Each house has a basement and two storeys, with two windows on each floor. The houses are linked by pediments and have recessed entrance bays between them, with an additional stuccoed window bay situated between numbers 41 and 43. The basements are stuccoed, with steps leading to round-arched entrances featuring gauged brick heads, pilaster jambs, and fanlights with decorative glazing; the entrances to numbers 35 to 39 are an exception. Ground-floor windows have a segmental arch and are set within a recessed stuccoed panel, with a gauged brick arch above. A sill band runs along the first floor. First-floor windows have flat arches with gauged brick heads, except in the entrance bays of numbers 35 to 41, where they are segmental-arched. Original glazing bars are present in numbers 35 to 39, 41 (ground floor), 43 (ground- and first-floor window bays), 47 to 51, and 53 (ground-floor window bay and first-floor entrance bay). The houses have a cornice, pediments, and a blocking course and formerly had chimney stacks. The properties have been considerably rebuilt. Cast-iron railings are attached to the area.
