Description
Numbers 22-39 are a row of terraced houses built around 1850 in Islington, developed by Henry Rydon and partly constructed by W.T. Catling. They are made of yellow brick laid in Flemish bond, with stucco detailing, and feature a roof that is hidden by a parapet. The houses rise three storeys above a basement, each with two windows. The basement and ground floor are stuccoed, with the ground floor showcasing banded rustication.
There are steps leading up to flat-arched entrances, which have overlights; the doors of numbers 25-26 and 33-39 have two tall panels. Number 39 is notable for having railings flanking its steps and a cornice supported by consoles. All windows are flat-arched, with those on the first floor featuring moulded stucco architraves and cornices on consoles, while the second-floor windows have only moulded stucco architraves. Window guards are present on the first floor of numbers 25-26, 30-31, 33-36, and 38-39.
The houses have 6/6 sash windows, with margin lights on the ground floor for numbers 22-23 (second floor), 27-28 (second floor), 30-31 (ground and first floors), 32, 33 (ground and second floors), 34 (ground and first floors), 35 (first floor), and 36-39. A stucco cornice and blocking course are present, along with a mansard roof featuring a dormer on number 35 and stacks on the party walls. Cast-iron railings are found at the steps and area of the houses.
