Description
This is a terrace of six houses, Numbers 2 to 8, built between 1836 and 1843 by T. Pearson. Numbers 2 and 8 are slightly projected at the ends of the terrace. The houses are built of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, except for Number 8, which is of brown brick and was presumably rebuilt. Numbers 2 and 4 have slate roofs.
The houses are three storeys tall with a basement, and feature two windows on each floor. The basement and ground floor are stuccoed, with the ground floor decorated with banded rustication. A flight of steps leads to an elliptical-arched entrance, supported by pilasters and topped with a cornice. A fanlight above the entrance has decorative glazing bars, and the original panelled doors remain. The windows are flat-arched, with gauged brick heads above. The upper floors retain their original six-over-six sash windows, as do the ground floors of Numbers 6 and 8. A stucco band runs between the ground and first floors, and a recessed round-arched panel is located between Numbers 4 and 6 at both first and second-floor levels. A stucco cornice and blocking course tops the building; Numbers 2 and 4 have two dormers each in their mansard roofs. The party walls project, supporting chimney stacks. The rear of all the houses has been considerably rebuilt and extended. Cast-iron railings with spearhead and foliated finials run along the steps and area.
