Description
70 and 72 Tollington Park are semi-detached houses built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of yellow brick laid in Flemish bond, with stucco detailing and roofs made of Welsh slate. The houses are two storeys high with a basement and feature two windows each.
There are steps leading up to a segmental-arched entrance located in a recessed outer bay beneath a lower roof. The entrance is framed by a stucco surround with pilasters, a keystone, and a simply moulded archivolt, topped with a modillion cornice that carries a cartouche flanked by scrolled consoles. The doorcase includes a cornice, an overlight, and a panelled door designed in the original style.
On the ground floor, the windows are flat-arched and tripartite, featuring panelled pilasters and four consoles supporting an egg-and-dart cornice and a segmental pediment. Small scrolled brackets are present at the architrave and pediment. The first-floor window in the inner bay is also flat-arched, with similar pilasters, a cornice on consoles, and a segmental pediment. The outer window has a plain stucco architrave with an open pediment on consoles. There are brackets at the boxed eaves at the centre point between the two houses, and segmental-arched dormers are visible in the roof, along with a stack on the party wall.
