Description
Numbers 74-78 (even) and attached railings are a group of early 19th-century terraced houses in Islington. They are built of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco detailing. The roof is hidden behind a parapet. The houses are two storeys high, plus a basement, with three windows each, and the entrance bay of each house is set back. The basement is stuccoed and scored to resemble ashlar. Steps lead to a round-arched entrance with a gauged brick head and fanlight. All windows have flat arches and gauged brick heads. The parapet is gabled over the contiguous bays of numbers 76 and 78. Number 74 has a panelled door, number 76 has fluted pilaster jambs, and number 78 retains its original fanlight glazing. The houses have been extensively rebuilt. Original railings are thought to flank the steps to number 76.
