Description
No. 24 St John Street is a late 19th-century building that originally served as workshops or a warehouse and is now used as offices. It is constructed of white brick laid in Flemish bond, with stone and iron detailing, and has a roof made of Welsh slate. The building stands five storeys tall and features a three-window range.
The ground floor has been opened up for access to late 20th-century extensions at the rear, but retains one pilaster on the left with a foliage capital, as well as a fascia and cornice. The first- and second-floor windows are arranged in round-arched triplets, with the inner arches supported by slim cast-iron columns that also have foliage capitals. The outer arches feature foliage imposts, gauged brick heads, and keystones.
On the third floor, the windows are also in triplets with flat shouldered arches, with the central arches similarly supported by cast-iron columns. A moulded stone cornice runs along the top, and there is a decoratively pedimented dormer in the mansard roof, along with an end stack to the south.
