Description
No. 42 Highgate High Street is a house dating from around 1800, featuring three storeys and three windows. It is constructed of stock brick and has a parapet. The recessed sash windows, which include glazing bars, are topped with gauged flat brick arches set in stucco-lined reveals. The door, located on the left, is framed by a moulded architrave and features a central cartouche displaying the arms of Sir William Ashurst, who lived in Ashurst House on this site in 1695, where the present St Michael's Church now stands. The building also has an enriched frieze and pilasters that support the brackets of the cornice hood. Nos. 24 to 42 (even) are part of a group.
