Description

Numbers 17, 19, and 21 are three terraced houses built in 1733 by Robert Harrison, with No. 17 featuring a later shopfront. The buildings are constructed of brown brick with red brick dressings and have stuccoed semi-basements. They have tiled roofs with later dormers.

The exterior consists of three storeys, attics, and semi-basements. No. 17 has four windows (the ones above the entrance are blind), while Nos. 19 and 21 each have three windows (those above the entrances are also blind). The entrances are approached by steep steps and feature wooden doorcases with shaped brackets and hoods, along with attached wrought-iron railings. The doorways are architraved and have fanlights; Nos. 17 and 19 have panelled doors, while No. 21 has a half-glazed panelled door. No. 17 includes a later 19th-century wooden shopfront to the left of the door, which has a canted bay window and a glazed shop door flanked by pilasters and fluted brackets. There are plain brick bands at the first and second floor levels, and gauged red brick segmental arches above the flush sashes with exposed boxing. A brick cornice runs below the parapet.

The interiors were not inspected, but it is noted that No. 21 retains its original staircase. Additionally, there are attached cast-iron railings to the areas, and on the wall of No. 17, there is a stone tablet inscribed L/SM/1745, which refers to Harrison's nieces, Sarah and Mary Lane, who inherited the estate.
