Description

The cattle trough and drinking fountain, built in 1901, is made of grey granite and sits on a moulded grey granite base. Atop the granite plinth is a carved Portland stone fountain head designed in a Roman Baroque style, featuring a broken pediment, volutes, and a prominent keystone adorned with a boar's head, along with carved grotto-like vegetation below. One side of the trough includes a semi-circular pink granite drinking bowl with the date 1901 inscribed above it, and a dog trough below. The structure is marked with the inscription 'Metropolitan Fountain and Cattle Trough Association'. This fountain and trough are noted for their unusually elaborate design.
