Description
The commemorative stone located in the court behind St Leonard's House dates back to 1821. It is a battered square pier topped with eared segmental capping and a stepped plinth. The top of the stone features the inscription "ST LEONARD'S SHOREDITCH." One side of the stone commemorates the widening of the footpath and the raising of the railing at the former almshouses in Old Street. Another inscription notes its relocation to the current site following the demolition of the Old Street Almshouses in 1902-1903. The stone is made of Oolitic limestone. St Leonard's House, the Porters and Walters almshouse, the commemorative stone, and the front railings and gates together form a group.
