Description

This is a row of houses forming Hammersmith Terrace, dating to approximately 1760-70, with later alterations. The buildings are constructed of brown brick and some stucco, rising to three or four storeys over basements. The north elevation features two windows per house, with numbers 1, 3, and 4 having rendered fronts, while numbers 6-14 have stucco to the ground floor and number 6 is partly rendered. The windows have rough segmental arches, with some having near-flush frames. Several houses have porches with Doric columns. Number 1A incorporates a mid-19th century shop window. Numbers 2 and 5 have cast-iron and wood trellis porches respectively. Wrought-iron railings mark the basement areas. The south (garden) elevation, facing the river, serves as the principal facade and features three windows to each house, apart from number 1A. A London County Council plaque is affixed to number 3, commemorating Edward Johnston, a master calligrapher, who resided there from 1905 to 1912.
