Description

This is an early 19th-century terrace of four buildings, numbered 21 to 24, situated on the north side of Clapton Square. Each building is three storeys high with an attic and basement, and originally had two windows. The roofs are slated mansard roofs with dormers. The buildings are constructed of stock brick with a stone-coped parapet. The windows on the first and second floors are sash windows, some retaining glazing bars, and are set within gauged flat brick arches. Most of the buildings, except for number 23, feature ornamental cast iron balconies on the first floor. The ground floor windows are round-headed, set within round arched recesses. The entrances have six-panel doors, featuring reeded engaged columns, a cornice head, and a wide fanlight. The buildings are part of a group value context with numbers 20 to 25 and numbers 1 to 8 on Clarence Place.
