Description

This is a row of four early to mid-19th century houses, numbered 1 to 4, on Croston Street. The houses are linked in pairs, each with two storeys and a basement, and featuring a main block with one window and a set-back entrance link with another window. The houses are constructed of stock brick, and have low-pitched slated roofs with gable ends to the road resembling pediments. The replaced sash windows have glazing bars, with the ground floor windows set within round-headed recesses of stucco, and the arches over the windows are formed of gauged brick. Stucco lining details the window reveals, and the linking bays between numbers 1 and 2 are also stuccoed. The entrances feature four-panel doors, some of which are flushed, with patterned fanlights above. Cast iron area railings are present. Numbers 1 to 4 are part of a wider group which includes numbers 6 to 15, 4 to 18 (even), and 5 to 23 (odd) on Dericote Street.
