Description

The police public call box, located at the north east angle of number 1 St Martin's Le Grand, dates from around 1935 or earlier. It is made of cast iron and features a tall, narrow rectangular design with a segmental arched head and a narrow projecting hood. This hood is topped with a globular light set within a small flat-topped cupola that has corner bars, all resting on a stepped base.

The front of the box includes rectangular doors that have instructions for use behind a framed glass plate. Above these doors is an opening for a name plate, which is now missing, and this area is surmounted by an embossed coat of arms. Below the main doors, there are two additional flush doors that have recessed hand grips. The panelled returns feature a plate on the left side that reads "Police," while the right-hand plate is missing. This call box is considered a rare survival.
