Description
No. 2 Ellerdaale Road is a detached house built around 1890 by local architect and developer TK Green for himself. The house is constructed of red brick with a tile-hung first floor featuring a fishscale pattern and stucco dressings. It has a tiled hipped roof with gables, gabled dormers, and a tall enriched brick chimney stack.
The building is two storeys high, with an attic and semi-basement. Its asymmetrical design includes irregular transom and mullion windows, which have diamond panes in the top lights. On the right side, there is a gabled portico with a four-centred moulded arch, above which is a stucco plaque displaying a coat of arms with a rampant griffin. The round-arched doorway features a fanlight.
A rectangular tower rises from the right-hand corner, featuring a canted three-light oriel window with a penthouse roof at the first-floor level. There is a Lombard frieze at the eaves level, and the tiled roof is topped with a louvred hexagonal drum that has an onion-shaped cupola and finial. On the left side, there are two 2-light windows, followed by a canted five-light bay window on the ground floor that supports a tiled balustrade. Above this, there is a four-light window under a gable with bargeboards and a small four-light attic window. The interior has not been inspected.
