Description
This is a statue and drinking fountain located opposite number 15 on Gloucester Gate, built around 1878. The bronze statue depicts a milkmaid looking towards the park, with her right hand raised to shield her eyes and her left hand holding a pail. The statue is positioned on a rocky granite grotto, which features a water jet to the left. The statue was created by Joseph Durham, Associate of the Royal Academy. A plaque on the fountain indicates that it was presented to the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain Association by Matilda, the wife of Richard Kent Jr., who was a local churchwarden.
