Description

The Crown Public House is a mid-19th century establishment designed by Finch Hill and Paraire. It features rusticated stucco and has a ground floor adorned with late 19th century glazed tiles at the public house frontage. The building stands three storeys tall with cellars and is located at the corner of Seven Dials, showcasing one window and three window returns to Monmouth Street and Short's Gardens.

The main entrance, which faces Seven Dials, is highlighted by a pilastered public house frontage. Paired Corinthian pilasters rise from the first floor, supporting an entablature that includes an anthemion enriched cornice and a parapet with recessed panels. A clock face is set within a central corniced panel. The first floor features architraved sash windows with console bracketed cornices, alternating with pedimented windows, while the centre bay on each return is blind. The second floor has architraved sash windows, with blind pedimented windows in the centre bay on each return.

Inside, the corner bar is divided into two areas by a screen with an arched opening. The rear area of the bar and the underside of the open staircase retain a moulded frieze. There is an early 20th century central bar counter and back bar, along with panelled walls.
