Description

Nos. 1, 1A and 2-11 Holly Terrace, including 87 and 89 Highgate West Hill and 9A Holly Lodge Gardens, are a group of terraced houses built between 1806 and 1817 by George Smart for the Cooke family. The houses face south and are approached by a gated path from Highgate West Hill. Nos. 1, 1A and 2-7 are constructed of stucco and feature slate mansard roofs with dormers, two storeys, attics, and semi-basements. No. 4 has an additional storey replacing the roof attic. Each house typically has three windows, with most featuring round-arched doorways that have reeded surrounds, radial fanlights, and half-glazed doors. Nos. 3, 4, and 6 include hooded verandahs, while No. 6 has a Gothic arched design with quatrefoils. No. 5 boasts a delicate cast-iron porch with a canopy, approached by steps with matching cast-iron handrails. The first-floor windows have recessed sashes and elegant cast-iron balconies. The cornice and blocking course are adorned with panels of blind balustrading.

Nos. 8-11 are similar in style but have three storeys and basements. Most have two windows, except for No. 8, which has three. No. 8 features a cast-iron trellis verandah with a tented canopy on the first floor, supported by slender cast-iron columns, while No. 9 has blind boxes. The interiors have not been inspected.
