Description

A terrace of eight houses, numbered 35 to 49, with number 35 being a corner house incorporating a shop. The terrace was built around 1835 to 1844. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick, with rusticated stucco to the ground floor. Some have slated roofs with dormers, and all have basements. They are three storeys high, some with attics. Most houses have two windows, and number 35 has a blind return to Swinton Place. Doorways have segmental arches, fluted quarter columns, and fanlights, with patterned fanlights at numbers 37 and 47. The doorways have panelled doors. Number 35 features a wooden shopfront with pilasters supporting an entablature with a bracketed cornice; the shop windows have small panes. The corner shop doorway and the segmental-arched house doorway on the return have been altered. Gauged brick flat arches feature above the recessed sash windows, and the first floor has cast-iron balconies, except at number 35. Stucco cornices and blocking courses are present. The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings with tasselled spearhead finials are present to the areas.
