Description

Numbers 1-7 and attached railings are a terrace of seven houses dating from circa 1862, built for the Marquess de Rothwell. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick with rusticated stucco to the ground floors, and No.1 also features rusticated stucco quoins. The terraces are three storeys high with basements. Each house has two windows, except for No.1, which has three. Numbers 1, 4, and 5 slightly project forward. Stucco doorcases have pilasters supporting an entablature, with doorways featuring pilaster jambs carrying cornice-heads, fanlights, and panelled doors. The ground floor windows are tripartite sashes. Upper floor windows are architraved sashes; the first-floor windows have console bracketed cornices. Numbers 4 and 5 have pediments, and No.8 features a cast-iron balcony. No.1 has a pediment and a cast-iron balcony above the central window, extending to the left-hand window. The houses have a stucco cornice and blocking course, with console brackets remaining on Nos. 6 and 7. The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings with urn finials are present to the areas.
