Description

This is a row of five terraced houses with shops, built in the 18th century and altered in the mid-19th century. The houses are faced with stucco and have a stone cornice at the third-floor level. They are four storeys high with basements, and each house originally had three windows, although number 59 has only two. The ground floor was originally occupied by shops with wooden shopfronts dating to the mid-19th century. These shopfronts featured pilasters supporting a fascia-entablature with a dentil cornice, flanked by modified consoles. The shop windows and doorways have since been altered, and number 59 has a 20th-century shopfront. The upper floors contain recessed sash windows; those on the first floor have console bracketed segmental pediments, and those on the second floor have architraves. Number 51 has lost its first-floor pediments and architraves. The buildings are topped with a parapet.

The interior of number 55 retains an original staircase and panelling, as well as cornices and panelling in the first and second-floor rooms. Number 57 also features an original staircase and panelling. The second floor contains panelled rooms with cornices, and a cupboard in a back room has an arched head.
