Description

This is a house built in 1878 by Norman Shaw. It was originally accompanied by a studio to the north-west facade, which is now a separate dwelling at No. 61 Fitzjohn’s Avenue. The house is constructed of red brick with a tiled roof. Notable features include tall, enriched brick chimney-stacks, a pedimented dormer, coved stuccoed eaves, and a hipped return on the right-hand side, while the left-hand side has two Flemish-style gables. The building is two storeys high with a basement and attic.

The main entrance features a moulded brick doorcase with Doric half columns supporting a round-arched pediment and a keystone. The door itself is part-glazed and panelled, approached by steps. Flanking the entrance are tall, narrow, segmental-headed sash windows with keystones and drip moulds. A central, slightly projecting, three-light transom and mullion window is on the first floor, with the central light having a round-arched head. A brick sill band runs around the building. A later casement window is located to the right.

The interior has not been inspected.
