Description
30 and 31 Great Queen Street is a building constructed around 1923-1924 by architect E.R. Barrow, originally serving as the Royal Masonic Institute for Girls. It is made of Bath stone with a rusticated front and features a steep slated roof topped with a central pedimented dormer. The building has three storeys and an attic, with five window bays designed in a classical style.
There is a 20th-century shopfront, and the ends of the building have recessed entrance bays that include console bracketed cornices and balconies above. Above the main entrance on the left side, seated attendants support a coat of arms. The central three bays are adorned with Corinthian attached columns that rise through the first and second floors, supporting an entablature topped with four allegorical figures made of Portland stone. The central three bays on the first floor have recessed windows flanked by pilasters that carry an entablature inscribed with "Royal Masonic Institute for Girls" on the frieze. The interior has not been inspected.
