Description

The garden wall, railings, and gate to Cloth Hill date from the 18th century. The structure consists of a brick wall topped with stone coping, which is adorned with elegant cast-iron railings featuring urn finials and scroll pattern panels. The gateway also includes scroll pattern panels and an overthrow with a Windsor lantern. Historically, this wall, railings, and gateway are depicted in Ford Maddox Brown's painting "Work," created in 1852, which was inspired by observing navvies working on Hampstead's main drainage.
