Description
The Holly Bush Public House is a public house built around 1797, with later alterations. It features painted stucco and slate roofs, and has a central stuccoed stack on the main facade. The building is two storeys high with cellars, and has three windows along with a two-window angular extension on the west side. A canopy hood with a wooden pelmet extends across the main front above the 20th-century entrances. The extension includes a wooden public house frontage with pilasters that support an entablature with a projecting cornice. The upper floors have recessed sash windows. Inside, the pub retains a fixed snob-screen and a 19th-century counter. Historically, it was originally built as the stables for Romney's House on Holly Bush Hill and was converted around 1807 to serve as the catering wing when Romney's House became the Assembly Rooms.
