Description
No 14 High Street is a shop that was formerly known as The George Public House. It dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with a likely earlier core. The building has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It stands two storeys high with attics and features a timber-framed structure that is rendered. The roof is made of concrete tiles and includes flat-roofed casement dormers. The upper floor has early 19th century small-pane sash windows. The shop front, which is a 20th-century addition, has a bay design with a pair of recessed glazed entrance doors.
At the rear, there is a one-cell wing from the early 18th century that incorporates materials from a 16th-century building. This wing is also two storeys tall and is partly timber-framed and rendered. It has parapet gable walls made of gault brick, with corbelled brick kneelers and a gable chimney. The roof is pantiled and features deep modillioned eaves. There is an 18th-century cross-window on the first floor. The interior has seen 20th-century alterations.
