Description
Lawney's Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. It has two storeys and features a main range with a cross-wing. The structure is timber-framed and rendered, with roofs that are partly covered in black-glazed pantiles and partly in 20th-century plain tiles, while the cross-wing has a hipped roof. Inside, there is an internal chimney stack in the main range with two attached square shafts set diagonally. The windows are a random assortment of late 20th-century casements. Except for the roof, which was renewed in the 20th century, the frame of the cross-wing remains intact, showcasing plain, heavy joists that are set flat and unchamfered in the ground floor ceiling. The ground floor of the main range has joists set on edge and features fine complex 17th-century stops on the main beam, including double jewels. The roof is plain, supported by a single row of stepped butt purlins. The building is located in an isolated position and is semi-derelict.
