Description

No. 40 Whiting Street is a house that is the remaining part of a larger building, which included No. 39, now rebuilt. It dates from the 16th century and was refronted in the 18th century. The house is timber-framed and roughcast, with a 20th-century tiled roof. It has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar. There is one window on each storey: a sash window with a single vertical glazing bar on the first storey and a tripartite Edwardian sash window on the ground storey. Additionally, there is one lead-covered dormer featuring a 20th-century two-light casement window. The interior has not been inspected but is said to contain little exposed timbering.
