Description

Chalk Farm Cottage, also known as Granary Cottage, is a former farmhouse that has been divided into two dwellings. It dates from the 16th and 17th centuries and consists of two sections. The building is part two storeys and part two storeys with attics, constructed with timber framing and rendered surfaces. The roofs are covered with pantiles and feature long catslides at the rear, extending over later single-storey additions. An internal chimney stack with a large plain red brick shaft connects the two sections of the building: the southern half, Chalk Farm Cottage, is from the 16th century and has a basic two-cell end-chimney plan, while the northern half, Granary Cottage, includes an early 17th-century parlour wing that was added to the original house. The exterior has been modernised, featuring mid-20th century two-light and three-light small-paned casement windows, along with plank doors.
