Description
Bridge Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century, consisting of 1½ storeys and originally featuring five bays, which were later extended to the north and south. The structure is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a 20th-century roof made of concrete plain tiles, gabled on the north side and half-hipped on the south. It includes one original internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft, along with a 19th-century stack on the north gable wall. The windows are small-paned casements from the 20th century, and there are three dormers with single-pitch roofs at the rear. A 19th-century extension on the west side is built of flint and red brick; it was originally a single-storey but has since been raised. There is also a small 20th-century extension on the east side. The cottage has been heavily restored, but it retains exposed ceilings and framing inside. The two bays south of the internal stack feature very wide, closely spaced joists. The framing in the former gable-end wall on the north side is nearly complete, with blocked windows that show remains of ovolo-moulded mullions. The roof has been renewed in the 20th century.
