Description
The Old Smithy is a village smithy, now serving as garages for Pump Green Cottage. It dates from the early 19th century and is a single-storey building constructed of red brick. The roof is fully hipped and covered with black glazed double Roman tiles, featuring a ridge adorned with ornamental tiles and pierced semi-circular cresting. The front of the building has three 'Romanesque' arches, with flat pilasters and four-centred arched heads. There are recessed panels that contain late 20th-century windows set in older openings, which have cambered heads and rectangular hood-moulds. The northernmost archway was originally open and formed the 'traverse' of the smithy, which was in operation until the 1930s.
