Description
The stables, coach house, and boundary wall to Glanelly Rest are early 19th-century structures with a core dating back to the mid-18th century. They form three ranges around a central court: a two-storey stable block with a loft above, a one-storey stable range adjacent to Cotton End Road, and a one-storey coach house. The buildings are constructed of red brick, with some 19th-century alterations in gault brick, and the entire complex is colour-washed red from the 19th century.
The two-storey stable range features 18th-century parapet gables with tumbled-in brickwork and dentil eaves. The roofs are slated and include 19th-century gablet dormers made of gault brick with small-pane casements. There are axial chimneys made of both gault and red brick. The stables have sash windows with flat arches of gault brick and small-pane sashes, while the stable doors are framed and boarded, complete with oblong fanlights and flat arches. The coach house has four pairs of ledged and boarded doors. Inside the stable, there is a row of five stalls, which are complete except for the mangers.
Attached to the stables is a mid-18th-century boundary wall that extends 110 meters south along Cotton End Road. This wall features two piers made of gauged red brick with limestone cappings, which are evenly spaced along its length, while the section of walling between them was added in the 19th century.
