Description

The gate piers to Number 1 Southgate House are a pair of 18th-century structures located on Sickle Smere Road in Bury St Edmunds. They are made of stone in ashlar blocks, which are likely reused materials. Each pier is tall and square, topped with large ball finials that sit on moulded bases. On the outer side of each pier, there is a reversed enriched console bracket. The gates are made of wrought iron and were added in the 20th century.
