Description
South End House, built in the early 19th century, is a house made of white brick, with the rear wall painted. It has a hipped slate roof and features two storeys and a basement, along with small lower extensions made of flint, stone, and red brick on each side of the front. The house is positioned at right angles between Sicklesmere Road and Nowton Road.
The main front has three windows, with one window on each of the side wings. All windows are 12-pane sashes set in plain reveals. The central entrance features a six-panel door topped by a segmental fanlight with ornamental fan glazing, and is flanked by recessed columns. This entrance is accessed by four steps with swept handrails.
On the south front, there is a three-light canted bay with 12-pane sash windows, along with a 20th-century addition that projects above the central doorway. Attached to the south-east corner of the house is a long, high flint garden wall that includes a garden door.
Inside, the basement contains the former kitchen and service rooms, while the living rooms are located above.
