Description

This is a barn located 20 yards north of Denham Abbots, dating from the early 17th century. It features eight bays and has one aisle on the west side. The structure is timber-framed and weather-boarded, with a roof that was slated in the 19th century. Notable architectural details include jowled arcade-posts and aisle-posts, as well as short braces extending from the post heads down to the aisle tie-beam. The jowled aisle tie-beams flank the east doorway. Inside, a partition frame three bays from the north end divides the barn into two sections, each containing a threshing floor. The end-frames and partition are supported by tension-braces that run from the post heads down to the floor, which interrupt the stud-work.
